The Vascular Birthmark Institute of New York was founded by experts, Dr. Milton Waner and Dr. Alejandro Berenstein.
Dr. Waner is an internationally recognized expert and a pioneer in the surgical management of hemangiomas and vascular malformations. His colleague, Dr. Berenstein is a renowned endovascular surgeon who heads the Hyman-Newman Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery. He is a pioneer in the use of endovascular techniques used to treat vascular malformations. Dr. Waner and Dr. Berenstein have combined their talents and extensive experience to develop new techniques for the management of some of the most difficult hemangiomas and vascular malformations.
For over 30 years, Dr. Waner has restricted his practice to the treatment of hemangiomas and vascular malformations. He has accumulated a wealth of experience and we believe that he has performed more surgeries in this field than anyone else. Dr. Waner has developed a unique approach to children and adults with vascular lesions. He was the first to recognize the differences between focal and segmental hemangiomas and the first to advocate for early intervention of these lesions. He has published widely in the field contributing over 100 scientific publications. He has also written and/or edited 3 textbooks in this field.
Dr. Teresa O joined the surgical team in 2007 and has helped to expand the practice. Together, they have developed new surgical techniques for some difficult life-threatening lesions.
